Ferrari unveiled its modern-day cannon nowadays, ahead of next month’s Geneva worldwide Motor show: The 812 Superfast marks Maranellos fastest, most powerful production car ever.

Sure, theres some historical significance herethe first Ferrari V12 premiered 70 years agoand Ferrari has jumped vis--vis the unintentional to continue its tradition of giving cool cars stupid and unwieldy names (see: F12berlinetta, LaFerrari, GTC4Lusso). Its actually not the first Superfastthe automaker debuted the 500 Superfast, plus at the Geneva produce an effect, in 1964.

But this two-seater is in fact an exercise in numbers. The successor to Ferraris F12berlinetta carries a 6.5 liter V12, suitable for not far away-off off from 800 horsepower when you rev the engine to 8,500 rpm. Max torque is 530 pound-feet, every it pushed to the rear wheels. Zero to 60 mph comes in just 2.9 seconds; peak readiness is 211 mph. Price is yet TBD.

Ferrari says this is its first automobile to have electric powered facility steerage, and the latest report of what it calls Side Slip Control, that tech that keeps wealthy customers from smashing their cars the moment all that power kicks in.

For enthusiasts, though, the 812 Superfast marks a bittersweet moment. Reports indicate this will be the last Ferrari to pack a naturally aspirated engine, before now changing its focus to powerplants previously turbochargers and hybrid assists, in the state of enlarged emissions. Because even Ferrari must manage the health of the planet and admit ever stricter regulations. At least this period of the prancing horse will close along with a V12 approbation.
